Use of artificial intelligence
We want to be open about the role artificial intelligence (AI) plays on this website. No general law currently requires this kind of statement in Canada; we publish it in good faith.
1. AI-generated images
- The dish photos on the online ordering menu were generated with a generative AI tool (Google). The original files carry C2PA provenance metadata that confirms it. They show the general look of our dishes, not the dishes themselves.
- The other photos on the site are also for illustration; some may have been created or edited with digital tools, including AI.
- All of these images are labelled “Illustrative photo”. An item’s description, size and price are those given in text; the actual presentation may differ. We will replace them with photos of our real dishes over time.
2. Website development
This website’s code and the first drafts of its texts, including legal texts, were prepared with the help of an AI tool (Claude, by Anthropic). They were then checked and approved by the business, which remains responsible for them.
3. No automated decisions about you
Café Sel makes no decision about you based exclusively on automated processing of your personal information (section 12.1 of Québec’s private-sector privacy Act). No chatbot or AI system interacts with you on this site. Whether an order is accepted depends on fixed rules: opening hours, room left in a pickup slot, item availability.
Our payment provider, Stripe, uses its own automated fraud-prevention tools, which can decline a payment. Stripe makes those decisions; if this happens to you, contact us and we will find a solution (see our Privacy Policy).
4. Your data does not train AI
We do not send your personal information or your orders to AI services, and we do not use them to train or improve AI systems.
5. Legal context
This statement goes beyond our obligations: Canada has no general AI law in force, and the transparency obligations of the EU AI Act do not target a Québec café whose website is not aimed at the public in the European Union. The rules on misleading representations in Québec’s Consumer Protection Act and Canada’s Competition Act do apply to images, however, which is why they are labelled as illustrative.
